Recordings
Look Up is a track with only two acoustic guitars and a vocal. The key was in picking microphone techniques that complemented each other while keeping the two guitars sounding distinct and full enough for a balanced mix without any bass or drums.
Charlie and Morgan had played These Walls a few times at open mics and wanted to record a full band version to take to venues and get gigs. They were a pleasure to work with and I tried to lean on their Chili Peppers influences during recording and mixing.
The Big Room Drum Recording was an attempt to recreate Steve Albini's drum recording techniques. One drum kit, one live room and fourteen microphones. No reverb, compression or EQ was used in this mix. Just levels and stereo panning.
Compositions
Count to 4 is a track I made attempting to use production as a composition tool. Noise gates, distortions, the stereo field and delays were used to make the elements move around.
On Alchemy Bass Fuck Around I had two goals. To have a go at making a synth patches without using any presets and to make some off grid hip hop drum patterns from cutting up drum samples.
One of a trilogy of compositions on a theme of chord pedals Desolate Theme Mvmnt - I attempts to create a atmosphere as if you're staring into space and lost in your thoughts (or something like that)
Buffet A Páris: Proof that if push came to shove, I could write music for a Hyundai TV ad.
